Teen Births Lowest in 10 Years: Is this the work of Satan?

Recent birth rate statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Health Statistics show that, for the 3rd straight year, the teen birth rate has decreased to its lowest point in 10 years.  It has decreased among all age groups.  In addition, the most recent graph I could hurriedly find shows a near 33% decline since a high of nearly 30 abortions per 1,000 women in 1998. 

Now if - as Rick Santorum has said - “Satan has set his sights on the United States of America" and if, as Mitt Romney has said, Obama is the most "feckless president" since Carter and has "failed America," wouldn't that mean that the data would support those statements?  From all the GOP talk of "personhood" and the social ills and evils of "contraception" and "abortion" wouldn't you think that the statistics were getting worse or, if anything, not changing?  

Funny how when you look at the 'actual facts,' the GOP presidential hopefuls for whom millions of Americans are tepidly voting for as I type prove to be just plain wrong.

Rick Santorum and a Monkey Thought Translator

Have you ever seen the movie "cloudy with a chance of meatballs"? It's one
of our family favorites. In it, the main character invents a monkey thought
translator. His monkey wears it and he can hear what his monkey actually
thinks.

If Rick Santorum had a monkey translator, it would say this: "Birth control
is wrong. It's against nature. If you don't want to get pregnant, don't have
sex, even if you're married. I will do everything in my power to make sure that
is the norm, and that women won't and can't choose birth control. Just like me
and my wife. Everybody should be like us because we are so godly. Insurance
companies? No - that's crazy, they shouldn't have to cover birth control. If
you don't use birth control and have lots of kids, I hope you have lots of
money because the government's not going to help you with your kids. Or maybe you can find a nice charity or your friends and family to help you.  I hope they agree with your lifestyle because if not, oh well.  Good luck with that."

That is akin to saying: "We believe seat belts are wrong. If you don't want
to die in a car accident, don't drive a car. Just walk everywhere or ride a
bike, or get a driver like me and my wife. If you want seat belts, fine, but
you have to buy them and install them yourself. Also, even though you pay big
money for car insurance, your insurance company can choose whether they cover
the purchase and installation of seat belts. Also, if you do get injured due to
lack of seat belts, you're on your own. Good luck with that."
